Regional Artists & Curators Symposium
Southern Forest Arts co-presented the Regional & Artists and Curators Symposium in May 2021 along with with John Curtin Gallery, Art on the Move and GalleriesWest.
This professional development event aligned with the ground breaking exhibition of The Alternative Archive, a survey of contemporary WA regional arts practice. The exhibition opened on Thursday May 13th, 2021.
Symposium Program
The symposium was open to all artists whose work was selected for inclusion in the Joh Curtin Gallery survey exhibition as well as the regional curators who developed one of the 12 regional exhibitions within The Alternative Archive series.
The three and half day program was tremendously well received.
The Alternative Archive was officially opened by Minister for the Arts Hon, David Templeman
The first event on the Symposium schedule was a preview of The Alternative Archive and a networking event for participating artists and regional curators.
A series of artists talks from curators and artists was a highlight of the final day of the Symposium.
PD session at the King Street Arts, with guest speakers from WA arts agencies, plus a debrief of The Alternative Archive series.
Guided tours of AGWA, PICA and Janet Holmes a Court collection/gallery.
