Modernised Custodians is a group exhibition, curated by First Nations emerging curator, Cassandra Bynder, that explores the relationship between humans, technology and nature.
Saturday 12 September – 18 October 2026
The exhibition invites reflection upon the nuanced advantages and disadvantages of technological innovation upon our humanity, environment and future. Modernised Custodians features original artworks by12 artists based across WA:
- Louise Alexander – Halls Head
- HR Baile – Geographe
- fiiq – Bunbury
- Shayne Hadley – Margaret River
- Yu-Hua Lan – Margaret River
- Nichole Lubcke – Dalyellup
- Elisha McGuckin – Binningup
- Shelley McNab – Margaret River
- Kimberly Rose-Jones – Narrikup

A range of mediums and perspectives are presented, with each of these artists bringing together old and new ‘technologies’ – to varying degrees. This blend is an increasingly blurred line. One might wonder where the border of old natural and new modern now lies.
How do we find that line within oursleves and establish our personal responsibilty to protect what has preserved us, while walking across a bridge to a new world?
