Southern Forest Arts is delighted to officially launch the Understory Garden Gallery this Saturday, May 23, in Northcliffe.
While many visitors may already have explored the growing collection of sculptures throughout the garden space, this event marks the first official celebration of the Garden Gallery as an evolving outdoor arts destination for the community and visitors alike.
The launch will showcase several newly installed works alongside the existing sculpture collection, including:
- Lisa Roet’s Orangutan Foot — a striking bronze sculpture on loan from the National Gallery of Australia for five years
- Tony Davis’ Manscape — a sculptural work in jarrah and steel exploring humanity’s relationship with nature and shelter
- Tony Pankiw’s Flora Portal — a vibrant community collaboration created through the Tin Lid Botanist project featuring hand-painted metal lids by participants across the Southern Forests & Valleys region
We are also pleased to welcome a curator from the National Gallery of Australia, who will present a special curator talk on the day, offering insight into Lisa Roet’s internationally recognised practice and the significance of Orangutan Foot within the Garden Gallery collection.
The afternoon is an opportunity for the community to come together, explore both the new and existing sculptures, and celebrate creativity, connection and place within the unique natural setting of Northcliffe.

Visitors are also encouraged to take part in the Northcliffe Selfie Challenge happening in the lead-up to the launch.
